About us

  1. Founded 1996, as part of the Federal AIDS Action Plan .
  2. It was formed to provide support,treatment information, health referrals for HIV+ persons.
  3. Entirely peer-driven,no paid staff.
  4. A community board, not a registered society; finances administrated by Lookout Emergency AID Society.
  5. Working board of directors, no executive.
  6. 1st branch needle exchange, 100 block Hastings Street(1998)
  7. 1st AIDS support group,DTES.

Needle Exchange Program

  1. Operate under the auspices of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.
  2. Operate needle exchange 18 hrs. per day,365 days per year;
  3. Distribute 15,000 syringes per year and related harm reduction supplies.
  4. Dispense 20,000 cups tea, 10,000 cups sterile water, 12,000 cups coffee annually.
  5. Approximately 120 referrals monthly.
  6. Annual Xmas Openhouse for residents.
AIDS Support Program

AIDS Support Group

  1. Operate AIDS Support Group in partnership with Carnegie Community Center (1st AIDS Support Group,DTES).
  2. Transportation to hospitals if required; mini-Food bank weekly; annual Xmas Dinner;provide treatment info, transportation to other community evevt.
  3. Also operate weekly visitation program for PWA's,St.Paul's Hospital, hospices.
  4. Where:   Carnegie Community Cetre, 401 Main Street, Pottery Room, Basement Floor

World AIDS Day

  1. Every year at Carnegie Community Centre since 1987 (always on December the 1st.).
  2. Primary sponsor: Consumers' Board. Co-sponsors: AIDS Vancouver, Carnegie Community Centre, BCPWA.
